This application is for organizations seeking funding through UWGT's Benefits Access & Wraparound Supports — a grant focused on public benefits enrollment and healthcare access for eligible-but-not-enrolled Triangle families and wraparound supports the are essential to creating the stability families need to advance. Organizations may apply individually or as a collaborative. Applications are due October 1, 2026.
Economic mobility outcomes are heavily shaped before adulthood. By the time a young person reaches the workforce-readiness programs most funders invest in, the gaps in early childhood development and adolescent engagement that shape long-term trajectories have often already opened. Statewide, 41% of North Carolina households were below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Threshold in 2024. Despite evidence that returns to investment are highest at the earliest stages of development, early childhood and opportunity youth are chronically underinvested in. These are the highest-leverage windows for shaping long-term trajectories, and they are consistently underfunded relative to their impact.
About the Triangle Advancement Portfolio
TAP is UWGT's multi-year workforce investment program — and a multi-year commitment by United Way of the Greater Triangle to building a regional portfolio of high-quality workforce training programs with comparable, rigorous outcome measures. TAP works differently than a typical grant: rather than each program reporting in its own way, all TAP members report within a shared measurement framework, making it possible for UWGT and other funders to compare results across programs and direct investment where it matters most.
Programs accepted into the TAP portfolio become part of something larger than an individual grant. Each November, UWGT hosts an in-person funder convening for invited TAP portfolio members and regional funders from private philanthropy, local government, and the corporate sector. The purpose of this event is to showcase TAP portfolio members and connect them with a wider array of regional workforce training funders.
This application is for consideration to join the TAP portfolio formally. UWGT will not share information disclosed in your application externally in any format without your explicit consent.
We are committed to building a portfolio that includes programs at different stages of evidence development. Programs with strong community rootedness and labor market alignment — but a more limited evidence base — are encouraged to apply and should be transparent about where they are in building their data infrastructure. Applications are due October 1, 2026.
